HBU School of Nursing and Allied Health
It鈥檚 a time of growth聽for聽the HBU School of Nursing and Allied Health.聽Just this school year, we鈥檝e launched two Master of Science in Nursing聽tracks, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care (PNP-PC). Also聽this school year, we鈥檝e begun to offer the Master of Science in Kinesiology (MSK)聽Sport Management聽degree.
For a long time, the聽nurses聽HBU聽produces have been known as聽some of the best聽among employers聽in the Texas Medical Center and聽far聽beyond.聽In fact,听the聽passing聽rate聽for the NCLEX (nursing board exam)聽among聽HBU聽Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)聽graduates is well above the national average, at about 90 percent.
Now, nurses can reach the next level of expertise through HBU鈥檚聽master鈥檚-level programs.聽HBU鈥檚 School聽of Nursing and Allied Health聽is the first in the state to receive approval from the Texas Board of Nursing for two separate advanced practice nursing tracks at the same time.
When it comes to the possibilities for MSN graduates,听they are numerous.聽Especially with a shortage of physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs)聽fill a special need, and allow patients to receive timely and quality care. The forecast for the career remains strong; the demand for NPs outpaces the number of聽people entering the聽vocation.
Similar to our nursing program, the undergraduate degrees in Kinesiology, with specializations in Sport Management,听Wellness Management, Athletic Training and Teaching, produce well-equipped graduates. They聽serve聽in聽educational,听medical, sports and wellness capacities. At the master鈥檚 level, the degree聽enables聽professionals聽to聽be more specialized, and to act in leadership capacities in their organizations.聽Work settings range from sports teams to school districts and beyond.
One of the greatest aspects of each of these three master鈥檚 programs is that the curriculum is offered online, giving our students the flexible learning environment they need.聽FNP and PNP-PC students聽also聽gain expertise with extensive clinical hours and one-on-one feedback.聽While I could say much about the School of Nursing and Allied Health faculty (the best), and our students (the brightest), perhaps聽what makes our programs truly unparalleled聽among its peers聽is that the tenets of the Christian faith inform all that we do.聽From placing value on human life聽to聽seeking to improve quality of聽life,听the Christian worldview underpins聽our聽curriculum.聽We know that providing medical care and facilitating聽wellness is聽indispensable.聽From聽education聽to ethics, our programs are exceptional.
